| We are focusing our time and energy on developing our Montessori public charter school program. Therefore, the parent- toddler program will not continue at this time. The last session ends June 2, 2008. Thank you for sharing this time with us. |
Come to Charles North…
each week and enjoy some uninterrupted time with your child in our stimulating, fun and peaceful environment. The impressions made on the child’s mind during the first three years of life are crucial. In our toddler environment, your child will be able to actively engage with a variety of materials that are building blocks for countless academic skills. The materials are selected to appeal to the young child’s innate curiosity, interests and developmental needs so they are naturally motivated to learn. Your child will strengthen his independence, self-confidence and concentration as he chooses and completes his own work. Language and motor skills are further enhanced as the children make new discoveries and repeat tasks as needed. Music, movement, literacy and art are an integral part of the program. Baltimore Montessori Inc. builds a strong foundation for school and most importantly, it fosters a love of learning and confidence in all children that will enable them to be successful in life. It will be an unforgettable experience as your child beams with pride while saying, “I did it myself." |
The impressions made on the child’s mind during the first three years are crucial. The child has what Montessori called an “absorbent mind”, one that unconsciously soaks up information from the environment and is learning at a rapid rate. A child interacts with the physical world through her senses.
In our toddler classroom, your child will be able to actively engage with a variety of materials that are building blocks for later academic skills. Many of the materials are self-correcting so your child can immediately feel a deep sense of pride and accomplishment as he chooses and completes his own work. |
| Experiencing success at such an early age builds up a positive self-image and leads the child to approach the next, more challenging task with confidence. The practical life activities include: pouring, transferring, cutting, washing, sorting, counting and stacking. These daily living tasks are preparation for countless developmental and academic skills but they are also fun and motivating for the young child. Most of the tasks involve fine and gross motor skills that improve strength and inner organization, essential for handwriting. They also involve spatial relationships and attention to detail. Practical life tasks may be mundane exercises to adults. However, to children they are fun and intriguing adventures that are open doors to independence and a positive self-concept. Sensorial lessons in sorting and matching help the young child to focus his attention and learn to observe details in their environment. These lessons are rich in vocabulary development, fine motor skills, 1:1 correspondence, and visual/auditory discrimination; prerequisite skills for reading, writing and math. |
